About Meg

I love cooking, baking, crochet and playing video games. I need more free time to do all of this! :)

Oat Cookies

I just wanted to quickly share a recipe for awesome cookies I found a couple of months ago. I didn’t have to change the original much, only doubled the amount of vanilla.

The first time I made these I split the mixture in half and added cinnamon and nutmeg to one part and desiccated coconut and chopped dried cranberries to the other. They were both nice but I liked the cinnamon/nutmeg combo way more.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope it’s better for you than 2015 in every possible way 🙂

It’s been a while since I posted here but I was very busy around Christmas. Mostly because I decided to crochet toys for three of my friends and didn’t really plan my time properly so I fell behind and was going a bit crazy right before Christmas, trying to finish the toys. Lesson learned!

Fluffy Sheep

Remember the fluffy sheep I mentioned in my Archimedes the Owl post?

I recently finished it, after struggling quite a bit. The fluffy yarn recommended in the pattern (DROPS Puddel) has been discontinued, so I bought DROPS Alpaca Boucle which wasn’t a great substitute 😦

I ended up having to hold it double with Stylecraft Baby DK yarn and make the body that way. I also had to crochet the feet with a smaller size hook to compensate for the difference in the body size. For some reason I didn’t do the same for the head and it ended up a bit big.

Initially, I was a bit sad with how my sheep turned out but now I think it’s actually cute. 🙂

Archimedes the Owl

So…I made a thing. My wrist doesn’t hurt any more but I realized  that I can’t work on the blanket for long. It’s the same thing over and over again and I get bored.

But I found a pattern for a fluffy sheep and ordered some yarn. Unfortunately some of it was out of stock so while I was waiting I had the idea for Archimedes the Owl. See, the project I’m currently assigned on at work is called Archimedes (after the Merlin’s owl from Disney’s “The sword in the stone”) and has an owl as a logo. So I decided I wanted to turn it into a stuffed toy.

Creamy Salmon Chowder

I’m not a big fan of fish. Lately however, I’ve been trying to include it more in my meals and discovered that I actually quite like salmon. I usually have it pan fried with potato-dill-yogurt salad. It’s very nice but it does get old after a while. Some time ago I found this recipe for salmon chowder and after changing it up a bit, it’s a nice alternative.

Blanket Progress

I’m stuck. 😦

This is my current progress:

Blanket progress

20 finished squares and 20 almost finished. So close to making two full rows and joining them!
But my left wrist decided to be mean and a few days ago I woke up to a dull ache that wouldn’t go away. On the contrary – it went worse after I made a couple of squares (well, still circles at this point) on Wednesday and played a game on Thursday.

So now I have to take a break from both of my hobbies until it gets better. 😦

Colorful and easy work lunch

I always struggle to come up with ideas for my work lunches. They need to be filling, easy and portable. “Filling” being the key word here. There are a lot of recipes out there for sandwiches, or soups and salads but I don’t understand how something like this can be a proper work lunch. It’ll keep me happy for a couple of hours, if that. Maybe it’s just me but I need a solid portion of protein plus carbs to keep me going.  Continue reading

The blanket project

After my first yarn adventures I was hooked and wanted to find a long – term project to work on. While searching for ideas I stumbled upon this sunburst granny square tutorial by Bella Coco and fell in love. I knew I wanted to make a blanket for my bed that would be mostly blue (I love blue), I just needed to figure out the rest of the colors. That took some time but I’m quite happy with the yarn I chose – Cream, Pink, Lilac and Blue Stylecraft Baby DK from Loveknitting.com. Their service is superb and the yarn itself is lovely and soft.  Continue reading
