It’s funny. My grandmother tried to teach me how to crochet when I was a kid. And I hated it – I could never get it right and I thought it’s only for grannies, duh!
But recently It’s been all around YouTube and it caught my attention so I decided to give it a try.
My first choice of yarn was a bit of a disaster. It was fluffy and tangled all the time so I had to undo my stitches a lot – quite a frustrating experience for a beginner. I then went on a quest for the perfectly smooth yarn! And returned home with a few balls of shiny cotton yarn – I was so excited.
For a start I decided to keep it simple. I needed nice colorful coasters so that seemed like a logical choice. I used this granny square tutorial and made a few red ones for the living room, like this:
And a couple of blue/purple ones for the bedroom:
I was quite happy with the results and wanted to try something more complex. A baby turtle stuffed toy ! Boy was it a challenge, especially with the cotton yarn. It has no give so it’s quite difficult to work with sometimes. But after several hours of failed attempts and undoing stitches, I finally got it and he’s adorable (even though he looks a bit stoned 😀 ):
Well, I could now safely say that crochet is not just for grannies!

Very neat for first attempts 🙂 glad to see another hooked hooker 😉
